Bioclear

About

Rejuvenate your smile with the better-looking, longer-lasting, less-invasive approach to dental restorations. Bioclear is an innovative and modern dental treatment designed to restore the natural aesthetics and functionality of teeth. It offers a minimally invasive alternative to traditional procedures like veneers or crowns, providing patients with a beautiful and long-lasting smile. This advanced technique uses specially designed clear matrices and composite materials to sculpt and enhance teeth with precision and durability.

What is Bioclear?

Bioclear is a revolutionary approach to cosmetic and restorative dentistry. Unlike conventional bonding techniques, which may lack durability and aesthetic appeal, Bioclear creates a smooth, contoured finish that mimics the natural appearance of teeth. The treatment involves using a translucent mold (matrix) to shape composite resin around the tooth, resulting in a seamless and natural-looking restoration.

The Bioclear Method is an approach to cosmetic and restorative dentistry that is used in lieu of traditional fillings, bonding, or veneers. Bioclear lasts longer than traditional composites, porcelain, or amalgams. It looks better too, with a more natural and consistent finish.

Candidates for Bioclear may have:

  • Black triangles between teeth and gums
  • Unwanted gaps between teeth
  • Undersized or misshapen teeth
  • Worn teeth that appear short
  • Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth
  • Root canal teeth
  • Old silver & white fillings that are rough, stained, or have decay around the edges
  • Bioclar versus Crowns and Veneers

Bioclear versus Crowns and Veneers:

Traditional crown preparations remove about 76% of the tooth. Bioclear’s minimally  invasive technique saves more healthy tooth structure and lessens the risk of future root canals or snap off fractures. As we age, crowned teeth later can require extraction. Bioclear offers an innovative option to avert this outcome. Bioclear is the best option for closing black triangles - the dark space between two teeth and the gums - without shaving the teeth down for porcelain veneers.

The Bioclear method has modernized the technique for composite solutions.

Crown Preparation: Crowns require dentists to remove an average of 76% of the tooth structure prior to the procedure

Veneer Preparation: Veneers require dentists to remove an average of 47% of the tooth structure prior to the procedure

Bioclear Preparation: Bioclear allows dentists to conserve healthy tooth structure

Key Benefits of Bioclear

Bioclear offers numerous advantages over traditional dental treatments:

  • Minimally Invasive: Bioclear preserves more of the natural tooth structure compared to veneers or crowns. It requires little to no tooth reduction, making it a conservative treatment option.
  • Enhanced Aesthetics: The clear matrices and high-quality composite materials allow for precise shaping and a beautiful, natural-looking finish.
  • Durability: The composite resin used in Bioclear is strong and long-lasting, providing excellent resistance to wear and chipping.
  • Cost-Effective: Bioclear is often more affordable than traditional veneers or crowns, making it a budget-friendly solution for many patients.
  • Improved Tooth Contours: Bioclear can address a variety of dental concerns, including black triangles (gaps between teeth), chipped teeth, and uneven edges.

Why patients choose Bioclear:

  • It's stronger and longer lasting. The typical longevity of a composite restoration—like certain cavity fillings—might be two to five years. Bioclear restorations typically last fifteen to twenty years or more.
  • It looks natural, youthful, and healthy. Bioclear restorations are finished with what we affectionately call the “Rock Star Polish.” The polishing is done wet, using water and a special slurry, keeping the temperature down and thus maintaining the integrity of the restoration. And the polishing mix itself is made of a safe, food-grade pumice. The polish is powerful enough to create a shiny finish while gentle enough to maintain the integrity of the restoration.
  • It conserves more of your natural tooth structure. Traditional restorations end at the gumline, often creating ridgelines that over time can irritate and inflame the gums. Bioclear restorations start below the gumline.   Preparations refer to the process of readying a tooth (or teeth) for restoration. Even today, dentists will remove all existing enamel in order to prep for porcelain veneers. Bioclear preparations only call for removing unhealthy tooth structure: it inherently conserves more of the healthy, original tooth.

The Bioclear Procedure

The Bioclear treatment typically involves the following steps:

  • Consultation: The dentist will assess the patient’s dental needs and determine whether Bioclear is the right solution.
  • Preparation: The teeth are thoroughly cleaned to remove any plaque or debris. Minimal preparation of the tooth surface may be required.
  • Application: The dentist places the clear matrix around the tooth and applies the composite resin. The material is shaped and contoured to create the desired form.
  • Curing: A special curing light is used to harden the composite resin, ensuring a strong and durable bond.
  • Finishing Touches: The dentist polishes the restoration to achieve a smooth, glossy finish that blends seamlessly with the natural teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does Bioclear® Work?

A: Bioclear® works by selectively removing diseased portions of teeth and injecting composite with compression, eliminating the need for shaving down teeth that is required for installing crowns.

Q: Does Bioclear® work for everyone?

A: Bioclear® could be an alternative to crowning, however, it varies person to person. Let me evaluate your situation to see if Bioclear® is a good fit for you!

Q: Why should I get Bioclear instead of a traditional crown?

A: Most dentists have been trained to do crowns to protect a cracked tooth. Crowns require the dentist to remove 76% of the top of the tooth, leaving a nub. A crown procedure reduces the size of the tooth until it's small enough to sit under a shell of porcelain that serves to hold the cracked sections of the tooth together

Q: What's the difference between Bioclear and a traditional filling?

A: Traditional fillings go “in” the tooth, which can eventually lead to a cracked tooth. Bioclear goes “around” the tooth with a combination of engineered cavity preparations and the patented Bioclear Method.

Q: A dentist told me I need to get a crown for my cracked tooth. Can I get a Bioclear Overlay instead?

A: Many teeth we would have previously crowned can now be treated with an overlay. With a quick photo and x-ray we can tell you if your tooth is a candidate for an overlay instead of a crown.

Q: Is Bioclear covered by insurance?

A: Bioclear is not covered by insurance. Dr. Kang will provide you with an estimate that reflects the complexity and number of teeth involved in your case.

Q: Why doesn’t every doctor use Bioclear?

A: The Bioclear Method is gaining in popularity and is now being taught in several dental schools. Major changes in dentistry and medicine often take many years to reach all doctors. It also takes passion and dedication to become a Bioclear provider. Bioclear certified doctors and their assistants complete extensive training and studies through a Bioclear Learning Center.
