Dental ExamReasons to Schedule Your Dental Exam and Cleaning

Do you tend to avoid the dentist? Most people do. Dental anxiety is a very real and sometimes debilitating problem that can keep you from getting the dental care you need. One of the things that you should really be doing for your oral health is getting a dental exam and cleaning at least once per year. There are several excellent reasons not to put off scheduling that appointment.

Early Cavity Detection

If you have any type of tooth decay, it is generally best to have it detected and treated as quickly as possible. If tooth decay gets out of hand, it could lead to an expensive root canal procedure or an extraction. Getting routine dental exams will catch these cases of tooth decay while they can still be treated with fillings, and before they cause you any real pain.

Early Detection of Gum Disease

Many people have the early stages of gum disease without ever realizing it. If your gums are at all sensitive, tend to be redder than they used to be, or bleed when you brush your teeth, these could be signs that you have the earliest stages of gum disease. Gum disease is most easily treated in the early stages. If it goes undetected and untreated, it could lead to dental surgery.

Your Best Smile

Even if you brush your teeth the recommended two times a day and floss once daily, chances are you are not getting your mouth completely clean. No matter how hard you try, it is impossible to get your mouth as clean as you would at the dentist’s office. Getting routine cleanings will remove the plaque and buildup that leads to cavities and gum disease.
