Root Canal Therapy

What do you know about root canal therapy? As you may know, this is designed to treat a tooth whose center is decayed or infected. Still, there are several myths surrounding the procedure.

Did you know that you may need root canal therapy if a cavity was left untreated for too long? You see, if a cavity is left untreated, it can reach the center of your tooth—which contains your root canal—and make root canal therapy necessary. Once this happens, our dentist may need to perform the procedure if infection or decay spread to the center of your tooth.

You see, many people think root canals are extremely painful procedures. Fortunately, this isn’t entirely accurate. In fact, many patients come to the dentist in pain expect the treatment to be even more painful, but the majority of patients who have had this done experience little or no pain. In fact, most patients who’ve had root canal therapy claim that it’s comparable to having a cavity filled.

On a final note, if you don’t fill your cavity, your tooth could die. If this happens, our dentist may have to remove the tooth. Once this happens, you’ll need a restoration to complete your smile.
